Tucson is home to the University of Arizona. With over 37,000 students, it is the second largest university in the state and has a internationally recognized swim team. Universities and colleges with campuses in Tucson include the University of Phoenix, Pima Community College, Prescott College and Northern Arizona University. The main public school district is the Tucson Unified School District. It includes the lower Catalina Foothills and parts of the Tanque Verde Valley. Tucson is a lively city full of year round activities and events. A popular spot is Reid Park Zoo, Tucsons largest park. Other attractions include the Tucson Botanical Gardens and Saguaro National Park. Outdoor activities include hiking, bird watching, rock climbing, golfing, camping, fishing and cycling. The city has a number of events held throughout the year. The Tucson Gem & Mineral Show, one of the largest in the world, is an annual event which takes place in February over a two week period. The Tucson Rodeo is another popular event also held each February. The first weekend in May the Tucson Folk Festival is held in El Presidio Park. |
